Hi - Welcome to My Suite 101 Profile where I get the chance to tell you a little about myself.
I'm from Birmingham in the UK where I've been residing for eighteen years. Before I was a student in London and prior to that I lived on the south coast in beautiful Dorset.
Along the way I have raised a son who is now a young man and created three homes with my husband and partner.
For paid employment I have followed a few diverse paths. Initially I was a qualified nurse and midwife - in the UK midwives are involved in all aspects of maternity care including delivery of the new born. Following on I was a dancer and choreographer and later dance teacher, community artist and college lecturer in performance arts. I gained a BA Hons in Dance Theatre at the Laban Dance college and a teachers' qualification to enable me to do all this. Recently I have worked as an administrator for a large hospital and for a short while as the marketing manager and press officer for one of Birmingham's largest choirs.
I guess that I missed the creative opportunities that I once had as a dancer, unfortunately getting older is not an advantage in the profession. Anyway, on the commute to my office job I drafted my first novel and caught the writing bug in the process. I believe that I may have gathered quite a lot to write about over the years and maybe a few more novels.
Like many writers I enjoy reading fiction, particularly contemporary fiction; Haruki Murakami, Iain Banks, Peter Carey, Joanne Harris, Nick Hornby, Monica Ali are some of my many, many favourite authors. I still enjoy dancing for pleasure, I also love home decorating and arts and crafts. I particularly miss the opportunities I once had when my son was young, to play with him, doing arty stuff.
